Gently slide the floss between your teeth using a back-and-forth motion. Be careful not to snap or force the floss, as it can cause gum irritation or injury. Curve the floss around each tooth in a C-shape and gently move it up and down to remove plaque and debris. Don't forget to floss below the gum line, as this area is often neglected and prone to gum disease.

Flossing should never cause pain or bleeding. If you experience bleeding gums, it may indicate gum inflammation or gingivitis. Flossing and brushing go hand in hand for optimal oral hygiene. Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Brush for at least two minutes, paying attention to all surfaces of your teeth and your tongue.

Traditional flossing can be challenging for individuals with braces, bridges, or other dental appliances. In such cases, interdental brushes or water flossers can be excellent alternatives to keep the spaces between teeth and around dental work clean.
